A database consists of one or more files that need to be stored on a pc. Te large organizations, databases are typically not stored on the individual computers of employees but te a central system. This central system typically consists of one or more laptop servers. A server is a rekentuig system that provides a service overheen a network. The server is often located ter a slagroom with managed access, so only authorized personnel can get physical access to the server.
Te a typical setting, the database files reside on the server, but they can be accessed from many different computers te the organization. Spil the number and complexity of databases grows, wij commence referring to them together spil a gegevens warehouse.
A gegevens warehouse is a collection of databases that work together. A gegevens warehouse makes it possible to integrate gegevens from numerous databases, which can give fresh insights into the gegevens. The ultimate purpose of a database is not just to store gegevens, but to help businesses make decisions based on that gegevens. A gegevens warehouse supports this objective by providing an architecture and instruments to systematically organize and understand gegevens from numerous databases.
Spil databases get larger, it becomes increasingly difficult to keep the entire database te a single physical location. Not only does storage capacity become an kwestie, there are also security and spectacle considerations. Consider a company with several offices around the world.
It is possible to create one large, single database at the main office and have all other offices connect to this database. However, every single time an employee needs to work with the database, this employee needs to create a connection overheen thousands of miles, through numerous network knots. Spil long spil you are moving relatively petite amounts of gegevens around, this does not present a major challenge.
But, what if the database is yam-sized? It is not very efficient to stir large amounts of gegevens back and forward overheen the network. It may be more efficient to have a distributed database. This means that the database consists of numerous, interrelated databases stored at different laptop network sites.
To a typical user, the distributed database shows up spil a centralized database. Behind the scenes, however, parts of that database are located te different places. The typical characteristics of a distributed database management system, or DBMS, are:
- Numerous laptop network sites are connected by a communication system
- Gegevens at any webpagina are available to users at other sites
- Gegevens at each webpagina are under control of the DBMS
You have very likely used a distributed database without realizing it. For example, you may be using an e-mail account from one of the major service providers. Where exactly do your e-mails reside? Most likely, the company hosting the e-mail service uses several different locations without you knowing it.
The major advantage of distributed databases is that gegevens access and processing is much swifter. The major disadvantage is that the database is much more ingewikkeld to manage. Setting up a distributed database is typically the task of a database administrator with very specialized database abilities.
Once all the gegevens is stored and organized te databases, what’s next? Many day-to-day operations are supported by databases. Queries based on SQL, a database programming language, are used to response basic questions about gegevens. But, spil the collection of gegevens grows ter a database, the amount of gegevens can lightly become terrific. How does an organization get the most out of its gegevens without getting lost ter the details? That’s where gegevens mining comes ter.
Gegevens mining is the process of analyzing gegevens and summarizing it to produce useful information. Gegevens mining uses sophisticated gegevens analysis contraptions to detect patterns and relationships ter large datasets. Thesis devices are much more than basic summaries or queries and use much more complicated algorithms. When gegevens mining is used ter business applications, it is also referred to spil business analytics or business intelligence.
